Explore the Popular Ludington State Park
One of Michigan's most popular state parks, the Ludington State Park is comprised of nearly 5,300 acres of scenic sand dunes, ponds, marshlands and forsts. It is situated between Hamlin Lake and Lake Michigan with several miles of shoreline and beaches on both bodies of water. Located within the Ludington State Park is the Big Sable Point Lighthouse and the Great Lakes Visitor Center.
Canoeing at the Park
This tour begins at the Hamlin Lake Concessions and follows the shoreline of Hamlin Lake around Desperation Point. Look for signs along the route to guide your journey into parts of the park not accessible by foot.

Eight different trail loops wind through woods and over dunes through the diverse ecosystems in the park.

Biking at the Park
A paved biking and hiking trail runs along the Big Sable River linking the campgrounds to Lake Michigan, Hamlin Lake day use areas, and the Great Lakes Visitor Center. Bicycles are allowed on park roads and the non-paved Lighthouse Road, but not on any foot trails or cross-country ski trailes. The gravel and sand Lighthouse Road travels along the Lake Michigan shore from the Pines Campground to the Big Sable Point Lighthouse.
Great Lakes Visitor Center
The Great Lakes Visitor Center is an outdoor interpretive faciity that is a very popular attraction at the Ludington State Park. It offers interesting displays, slide presentations, videos and live programs that provide visitors of all ages with a better understanding of the local wildlife, geology, and history unique to the Great Lakes.
