The Barns & Byways tour is a day excursion touring five barns of Mason County scheduled for Saturday, October 9, 2010. New features this year include guided walks through South Victory Cemetary and a Centennial open house at Victory Trinity Lutheran Church. Events and demonstrations accompany this family-friendly tour during the height of the region’s fall color promotions.

This celebration of historic barns will honor local farms and celebrate the traditions of the past. The tour provides a chance to see century-old barns still in use by families who for generations have lived on the same land. Visitors will have a chance to see some of these barns on the inside and learn about their architecture and history.

Tickets will be available in advance at the Ludington & Scottville Chamber of Commerce. The day of the event, tickets will be available at Victory Trinity Lutheran Church at 3208 West Victory Road, Ludington.

Centennial Farm Driving Tour

In additon to the October 9th event, visitors have the option to take a self-guides tour of centennial farms. The centennial farms along this driving tour route are only a sampling of over 50 registered centennial farms in Mason County. To qualify as a Michigan Centennial Farm, the farm must be owned by the same family for over 100 years and be certified by the Michigan Historical Commission. The farms highlighted here are not open to tour but can be enjoyed from the road.
